Mulberry is known as the “Phosphate Capital of the World” and is home to the Mulberry Phosphate Museum. Formerly a freight and passenger train station, this museum not only tells the century old history of the city of Mulberry, but is also full of fossils of prehistoric mammals and sea creatures. As an added bonus for families, there is a special area for visitors to dig up fossils and a train caboose for kids to play on.
Aviation enthusiasts will enjoy Mulberry’s proximity to both South Lakeland Regional Airport and Lakeland Linder Regional Airport. At South Lakeland Regional Airport, there is an Annual Fly-In that occurs every Super Bowl Saturday. This airport is also home to South Lakeland Sport Aviation where pilots are trained and small air crafts are sold. Skydive Tampa Bay is also located at this airport and is a world-class skydiving school that has been in business for over 30 years, At Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, you will find the annual Sun n’ Fun International Fly-In and Expo, which celebrates aviation with events like hot air balloon launches, aircraft judging, and much more. At this airport, you will also find the Florida Air Museum, which houses the largest collection of Howard Hughes memorabilia.
For fans of outdoor recreation, Mulberry is also home to the Alafia River Reserve, a water
conservation area equipped with wetlands, hiking trails, and numerous picnic areas. Another famous park in the area is Loyce E. Harpe Park. This park is built on an old phosphate mine land and known in the area to those fond of mountain biking.
In nearby Winter Haven is LEGOLAND Florida. This LEGO themed park is full of rides, shows, and much more, providing entertainment for the whole family.
