Situated in Polk County in Central Florida, North Lakeland is situated within an hour’s drive of Orlando’s theme parks, but there are lots of things to do outside of Orlando! In fact, there are several theme parks that are a short drive away from North Lakeland, including the following.
Theme Parks Near North Lakeland: Legoland Florida and Cypress Gardens
The Legoland Florida theme park is located in Winter Haven, a short drive from North Lakeland. Legoland is more than just legos; you’ll also find rides, water park attractions and lots more.
There are a few Legoland parks worldwide, but the Florida park is the biggest (and arguably, the best.) Annual passes and Florida resident discounts are available.
Cypress Gardens used to be a stand-alone attraction that pre-dated Disney. The park closed for a period in 2009 and then re-opened as part of Legoland in 2011. Cypress Gardens, in its new incarnation, is more family-friendly. Attractions include the botanical gardens (with incredible banyan trees), the iconic and whimsical Southern Belles in hoop skirts and water skiing shows.
Theme Parks Near North Lakeland: Weeki Wachee Springs and Buccaneer Bay
Weeki Wachee Springs State Park is home to some incredible, fanciful creatures – mermaids!
Situated in the natural springs, the mermaids of Weeki Wachee put on performances daily in a submerged auditorium, which features a glass wall that lets you glimpse into the springs, where the mermaids frolic in three shows a day.
In addition to the mermaids, there’s also Buccaneer Bay, which features water slides, a lazy river, swimming area and range of other attractions in and around the natural springs. In fact, it’s not uncommon to encounter turtles, otters, fish and other creatures that live in the crystal clear fresh water springs.
Weeki Wachee, Florida is located just north of Tampa, a 30 to 45 minute drive from North Lakeland. But it’s a trip that will be well worth it because nowhere else can you see mermaids!
